The College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois, was established in 1967 as a public community college to serve the academic, career, social, economic, and cultural needs of Lake County. The college officially opened in 1969 with 2300 students and 80 instructors. At that time, the facilities on the 230-acre main campus consisted of the buildings, which now make up the North Campus. Since that time, the college has added a Physical Education Building in 1982 and the Science/Student Services Module in 1987. The college's growth reflects its commitment to excellence and the support that the people of Lake County have given it.
